{'I could have killed them' - Lawson experiences dangerous incident with F1 marshals
Formula 1 racer Liam Lawson revealed he came dangerously close to a potentially deadly accident during Sunday's Mexican Grand Prix when two marshals crossed the track directly in front of him
The alarming incident happened on the third circuit when track officials were seen on the track as Lawson was getting back on the race following an quick visit to the pits to change his broken nose section
Competitor's Live Reaction
Shortly afterward, the team's competitor Lawson communicated to his race engineer saying: "Is this for real? Could you believe what happened? I could have... killed them"
"I honestly couldn't believe what I was witnessing"
"I came out on a brand new hard tyres, and then I arrived at Turn One and there were just two guys dashing across the track"
"I came close to striking one of them, honestly, it was extremely hazardous"
Safety Concerns Raised
"Obviously there's been a failure in communication at some point but This is the first time I've faced that before, and I haven't really seen that in the past. It's pretty unacceptable"
"We can't understand how on a active circuit track officials can be permitted to just run across the track in that manner. I don't understand the reason, I'm confident we'll get some sort of explanation, but this must never be repeated"
Formal Inquiry in Progress
The sport's regulatory authority, the FIA, is actively examining the events
"After an occurrence at turn one, race control was notified that debris was present on the track at the turning point of that curve" declared the governing body
"In the third rotation, safety personnel were alerted and placed on standby to go onto the racing surface and remove the wreckage once the entire field had cleared the area"
"Immediately when it was understood that Lawson had entered the pits, the orders to send officials were canceled and a safety warning flag was raised in that zone"
"The examination is ongoing what transpired following that moment"
